Heart of Ohio PEts (HOPE) continues to focus on keeping healthy, altered pets in
low-income households by providing pet food and pet services. HOPE makes the following services available to
low-income families in Centerburg and the surrounding area which includes portions of
Knox, Morrow, Licking and Delaware counties.
Qualifications for receiving Assistance
If your family is a
recipient of services provided by Interchurch Social Services of Centerburg or is
receiving Federal, state or local assistance* you may qualify for obtaining assistance for
your pet from HOPE.
*Federal, state or local
assistance includes
Ohio Direction Card (food
stamps)
HEAP
School meal program for children in your family
WIC
Schedule letter from Ohio Works First
Ohio Medicaid
Service-related disability
SSI
SSDI
Tax return showing family income does not exceed 185% of federal poverty guideline
Disaster such as house fire, flooding, etc.
Pet Food Assistance
HOPE has distributed over
80,000 pounds of cat and dog food to families in the Centerburg area since it was founded
in 2005.
In order to receive this assistance, your family must NOT be engaged in breeding pets or
in using them for illegal activities. You
must agree to maintain your pets in healthy condition.
Finally, you must agree to use the pet food which you are given to feed YOUR
pets. You cannot sell or barter the pet food
for other products.

Spay/Neuter
Assistance
HOPE has spayed and
neutered 2453 pets since January 2007.
HOPE offers spay/neuter
assistance to families who demonstrate a need for financial help. Whenever possible, HOPE encourages the family to
make a co-payment to assist with spay/neuter charges.
HOPE strongly recommends that all pets be spayed or neutered to
eliminate unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.

Assistance with
Pet Medical Costs
HOPE has assisted owners
of 714 pets with pet medical costs since January 2008.
HOPE can also provide
limited monetary assistance for pet medical costs which exceed the financial capabilities
of low-income pet owners. Whenever possible, HOPE encourages the family to make a
co-payment to assist with payment of these costs. If
